"HULK SMASH!!!!"
―Hulk[src]

Doctor Robert Bruce Banner was a normal human scientist until he was exposed to gamma radiation which transformed him into a huge green-skinned muscular behemoth known as the Hulk. He transforms into the Hulk every time he gets angry. He is one of the first five founding heroes of the Avengers and serves as the main weapon of the team.

Biography[]

Early life[]

At some point in his life, Bruce Banner was a weak-bodied but brilliant scientist who was doused with gamma radiation during a freak accident, which caused him to transform into the Hulk when under intense stress. The destructive behavior of his monstrous alter-ego caused the U.S. military, for whom he was working on the gamma bomb project, to start giving him chase. Because of this, Bruce has spent his days on the run, trying to keep a low profile in public places in order not to get into trouble mostly from Ross and his Hulkbusters.

Hulk Vs. Wolverine[]

After coming to understand how the Hulk transformation works, Banner worked on numerous cures for the Hulk, but was unsuccessful. At some point, he also came into conflict with Wolverine in his Hulk persona when he was blamed for an attack on a town. Wolverine attacks Bruce, because he has the scent of toxin, causing him to turn him into the Hulk. Their initial encounter was left inconclusive as both combatants were captured by Deadpool, Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike and Omega Red of the Team X, who are looking to turn him into a weapon.

Brought to the Weapon X labs, it was revealed that the Hulk was used (unbeknown to him) to get Wolverine back. Breaking free, Wolverine was able to let the Hulk out by stabbing Banner. In turn, the enraged Hulk went on a rampage, tearing Lady Deathstrike's arms off, knocking Sabretooth out of the facility and beating Omega Red into a pulp. Both Hulk and Wolverine survive and continue their earlier fight. However, the Hulk comes out as the winner, crushing the escaped Deadpool as he celebrated surviving the destruction of the Weapon X facility.

Hulk vs. the World[]

He was last spotted in Las Vegas, NV. In a diner on the city's outskirts, he approached Carl Creel, a.k.a. Absorbing Man, and tried to talk the villain into helping him out, promising to heal his condition in return. Instead, Creel attacked him, as he knew that Bruce was the Hulk after witnessing the transformation. This resulted in a full-scale brawl between the two on the Nevada desert, which culminated with S.H.I.E.L.D. interfering. In spite of the Hulk's efforts to avoid any casualties (even going out of his way to save S.H.I.E.L.D. operative Barbara Morse), he was incapacitated and taken under S.H.I.E.L.D.'s custody.

The Breakout[]

In the Cube, Bruce is locked up in his cell. Doc Samson visited him to tell him about his condition and the curing of the other people in the Cube. Bruce was worried about the Cube prison and warned Samson that he is being used by S.H.I.E.L.D.[1]

After a blackout happened, an explosion occurred freeing Bruce, but he was still captive by the boulder that fell on top of him. He is soon freed by a gamma radiated Samson. Zzzax approached them and knocked Samson out and zapped Bruce, making him angry and transformed him into the Hulk. Hulk took care of Zzzax and carried Samson, he encountered Abomination and Absorbing Man and fought them for a while and escaped the prison along with Samson.[1]

Hulk went to the Vital Diner and brought Samson to the waitress. He watched the news of the destructive fight between Graviton and Thor and was interrupted by Banner in his own vision. He agreed with Banner to become a hero despite being known as a monster, in condition having control of the mind and body.[2]

When Graviton attacked the city, he came to the rescue and took on the villain Graviton. With his strength and density could overcome the gravitational powers of the villains and along with Wasp, Ant Man, Iron Man and Thor crumbled Graviton to his knees. After they defeated Graviton, they were approached by S.H.I.E.L.D. who were going to take Hulk and Graviton into custody. The Hulk was defended by Iron Man and was considered to be a hero. The heroes together by Iron Man's suggestion formed as a team and by Wasp's name suggestion became the Avengers, which the Hulk liked.[2]

Avengers[]

After forming the Avengers, he was invited to see the Avengers mansion where he would stay with Thor. Hulk arrived in time for the tour complaining about the others' late arrivals. At the tour around the mansion, he took on the training sessions and succeeded. He along with the others arrived at the assembly hall, he talked with Bruce inside his mind, putting suspiciousness to the other Avengers. The Hulk argued with Thor about his behavior and left to his room. Bruce wanted to contact him but was sealed by the Enchantress. With Hulk becoming enraged, he decided to quit and after talking with Thor he left the mansion.[3]

Hulk walked through the city scaring people around him. He was approached by Thor who wanted him to return to the mansion. Hulk pitted in a fight against the Asgardian. The other Avengers arrived and tried to calm Hulk down, but by Enchantress' spell, he was on a rampage. Before Hulk could finish the Wasp off, Bruce released himself from Enchantress spell and the Hulk went calm. He realized what he has done and left the scene. He discussed with Bruce who consoled the Hulk and made him return. The Hulk fought against the Enchantress and the Exeuctioner, with the latter trying to control him and Hulk freed from the spell. After the enemies fled, Thor tried to convince the Hulk to stay, but Hulk still decided to quit the scene and leaves. He went to the Artic to relieve his anger.[4]

Wolverine Vs. Hulk (Rematch)[]

Sometime later, Nick Fury contacted Banner and asked him to develop a cure for a creature known as the Wendigo, said to be a hiker that had succumbed to a curse. He was presented with samples of the creature and was able to create a cure. He then accompanied a small strike force of elite S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who were going to stop the creature. However, unknown to Banner, he was brought as bait and only realized it once he was pushed out of the helicopter carrying the team. Upon landing, he once again transformed into the Hulk and fought off both the Wendigo and later attacked the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicopter as it was retreating from the area.

Knowing the Wendigo threat was getting out of hand, Nick Fury contacted Wolverine and told him that the Hulk was destroying towns along the Canadian border. Wolverine only agreed to help when Fury revealed that he had information on the X-Men and threatened to sell the information to Senator Kelly if he didn't cooperate. Although Wolverine agreed to the mission, he didn't believe Fury's story. As Wolverine arrived, he was confronted by the Hulk. He attempted to talk to the Hulk, but when Wolverine revealed his claws, the Hulk remembered their previous fight years ago and attacked him. Although the Hulk had the upper hand in their fight, Wolverine succeeded in incapacitating him by shoving a grenade in his mouth, which exploded and knocked the Hulk unconscious, who regressed back into Banner.

When he regained consciousness, he and Wolverine were sitting in a cave. Wolverine explained that he was familiar with Bruce Banner and the Hulk, and that he had his doubts about Fury's words from the beginning. Banner, confused, asked if he knew Wolverine, to which he responded that his Hulk persona did. Banner explained to Wolverine that he was brought in by Nick Fury to help stop the Wendigo and that he had engineered a cure for creature which was likely still in the downed S.H.I.E.L.D. helicopter. Wolverine picked up the scent of the wreckage, but also pointed out that the Wendigo was following them.

They both rushed towards the chopper, but they eventually ran into the Wendigo. However, the Wendigo was accompanied by a few grey creatures just like it. Banner theorized that the creature's bite infected humans and transformed them into creatures just like the Wendigo. Wolverine forced Banner to go on ahead. He reluctantly agreed and Wolverine continued to fight off the creatures.

Banner eventually found the downed helicopter, which had landed in a tree, but he was followed by the white Wendigo. Wolverine caught up to them as well and tried to hold off the creatures, while Banner tried to climb up to the helicopter. Banner eventually succeeded in getting on board the helicopter, but one of the Wendigo creatures followed him and jumped into the chopper as well, knocking it from the tree. Upon landing, Banner transformed into the Hulk, knocked out the creature, and emerged from the wreckage. The other Wendigo creatures attacked the Hulk and Wolverine used the distraction to retrieve the cure. While the Hulk was fighting the creatures, Wolverine began to shoot the tranquilizers containing the serum into the creatures. The Hulk managed to see Wolverine and began to attack him instead. That attack did not last long, as the original Wendigo tried to attack the Hulk while he was distracted. Wolverine proceeded to cure the rest of the creatures before attacking the original one. Doing so stopped the creature's assault on the Hulk, and all of the creatures, including the original one, reverted into the missing S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. While Wolverine was distracted, the Hulk picked him up by his head and was enraged. Wolverine apologized for attacking him and told him that he would not do it again. Although reluctant to believe him, the Hulk released Wolverine and proceeded to walk off but reverted to Banner and stopped. Confused, Banner asked what had happened, but Wolverine just told him "Don't ask."

Later, Wolverine and Banner waited for Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. with the missing S.H.I.E.L.D. agents in custody. As Fury arrived, he congratulated Wolverine for saving many innocent people. Wolverine, however, stated that he felt that he was cleaning up their mess and revealed that he found out that the Wendigo was actually an experiment from S.H.I.E.L.D. that had gotten out of control. Banner was infuriated as well, telling Fury that controlling a monster was an impossible task. Fury just laughed at this and told both Banner and Wolverine that they were only tools for him to use when he needed them. Wolverine then threatened that if Fury told anyone what he knew about the X-Men, he would inform Fury's superiors about Fury's involvement with the Wendigo. However, before Wolverine decided to leave, he turned and punched Banner in the face. When asked what he was doing, Wolverine said that the Hulk wanted to thank him too. Banner transformed into the Hulk and sent Wolverine flying a long distance away. When Wolverine landed, he looked up and said "Have fun, Fury."

Gamma World[5][]

While on the run, Hulk was spotted in Canada by Ross' Hulkbusters and was attacked by a squadron of Hulkbuster Tanks supported by one Hulkbuster Attack Helicopter. Hulk was nearly captured but Hawkeye came to aid him and defeat the Hulkbusters. He told Hulk he needed to talk to Banner as everyone in the world would die. The Hulk relented and changed into Banner. After being briefed on the situation Banner created an antidote to the Gamma cloud for the Avengers and gave the Hulk control to enter Las Vegas

The Leader offered Hulk a place in his Gamma World but Hulk refused. As Hawkeye battled the mutated Avengers, Thor battled Absorbing Man the Hulk sparred once again with Abomination. A device was fitted onto Blonsky making him twice as strong as Hulk. The Leader then interfered with a battlesuit. Hulk used the two strength against them. Thor sent Absorbing Man flying into the Leader as Hawkeye administered the cure into the satellite mutating Vegas curing everyone. Abomination was blown away in all the fighting.

After the Leader and Absorbing Man were in custody of S.H.I.E.L.D. Hulk was offered to rejoin the Avengers. He said he would so long as Hawkeye joined as well. Hawkeye, along with the Hulk, agreed.

Masters of Evil[]

At the Avengers mansion, Hulk watched TV, until he was ambushed by the Enchantress and Abomination. They sent him through a dimensional portal to Jotunheim, ruled by Loki's real father Laufey, where he was ambushed by several Frost Giants. Hulk was brought back to the Assembly Hall by Thor, survived from the cold and the fight against the Frost Giants. Hulk fought against the Enchantress until she was ordered to flee with the other Masters via teleportation. They went to the living room where they discussed the intentions of the Masters of Evil.[6]

Sentry 459[]

Hulk was called along with Thor and Iron Man to the hospital where Carol was taken care of. The Hulk listened to the story of Mar-Vell, until Wasp ordered to smash him which Hulk longed for. The Hulk released him when Mar-Vell wanted to help them from being destroyed by the Kree. Hulk along with the others went to the site of the Sentry-459, they attacked the robot, but was nearly indestructible. After Wasp took care of the robot from the inside, the mega bomb was set to detonate the whole planet, which Hulk arrogantly claimed that he could survive. After Thor send off the Mega bomb to the vast reaches of space, they went to hospital where Hank was wounded of the fight but survived.[7]

Kang the Conqueror[]

Hulk along with Hawkeye watched in humor how Tony was beaten by Steve Rogers in boxing. When Kang went back to time to warn them of upcoming future, Hulk ambushed him from behind. He fought against Kang and hold him to let the others ask him some questions. The Hulk released him when Kang attacked them with energy bolts. Kang showed Hulk along with other the Avengers the future of the disastrous planet Earth. Hulk was annoyed by Kang by his accusation of the destroyed planet being Captain America's fault, he tried to attacked him but was beaten by him. The Avengers distracted Kang long enough until Iron Man brought them back to the present. Back at the present, Hulk witnessed Kang fled the scene back to the Damocles.[8]

Kang's army rampaged the city, the Avengers took on the robots but were indestructible. Captain America ordered Hulk to save Giant Man, which he ignored at first. The Hulk fought off against the robots along with Hawkeye on the bridge, where they formed into a huge robot, but was eventually destroyed by the Avengers and they took on the space ships as well.[9]

Hulk went into space with the other avengers to fight Kang. He fought his servants and robots. However, he was unable to destroy the time drive because of a shield surrounding it. Iron Man tried to use it, but was stopped by Wasp who told them that Kang was trying to save his wife, Ravonna. Kang was later defeated and imprisoned in Prison 42.

Malekith's War[]

When the summer was hot, Hulk was in the pool while Wasp and Hawkeye sunbathed. When Malekith froze the planet, Hulk was frozen in the pool. Hawkeye and Wasp left him there and got dressed so they could fight the dark elf spirits without getting frostbite. Hulk got out of the frozen pool and found Hawkeye. He was angry about the incident, but he fought the dark elf spirits. He and Hawkeye were almost defeated until Thor, Iron Man, and Black Panther defeated Malekith and closed the Casket of Ancient Winters, sending the dark elves back home. When Hulk and Hawkeye asked what happened, Wasp claimed that she beat everybody.

Hulk watched Hawkeye shoot an apple when the power went out. He and the other avengers were about to investigate when Black Widow entered the Mansion. Wasp told him to smash her, and after he did that, she told the avengers that HYDRA and A.I.M were fighting over the Cosmic Cube. Hulk teamed up with Captain America to defend New York. Captain America told Hulk that he was a hero and always does the right thing. Hulk then destroyed HYDRA's robots. After the battle, he and the other avengers celebrated their victory over HYDRA.

Ultron[]

Hulk and Black Panther had come back to the mansion after recapturing Red Ghost and the Super-Apes who had attempted to attack the Baxter Building. When Hulk was moving two of the apes onto a Quinjet, the ship had automatically lifted off and flew into space under the control of Ultron. Once Hulk came back to Earth, he crashed through the mansion and was able to destroy Ultron's body. After Ultron-5's defeat, he simply uploaded himself into Ultron-6. He then controlled previous armors of Iron Man to attack The Avengers. Hawkeye and Black Panther stayed behind to stop them while Bruce and the rest of the team went to go fight Ultron. They found him hacking into the mind of Director Maria Hill attempting to gain access to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s nuclear launch codes. After launching the nukes, the Avengers came and attempted to stop him. Hulk was about to destroy Ultron's body again, as he did with Ultron-5, but before doing so Ultron used one of his many new upgraded functions to somehow revert Hulk back into Bruce Banner. Every effort from the team seemed pointless and all seemed lost until Thor and the rest of the team came to help. Luckily, Ant-Man was able to reprogram Ultron with the logic that he was part of the problem he was trying to solve and Ultron commenced self-shutdown.

Loki's War[]

When Hulk was on one of the Nine Realms after defeating the Executioner and claiming his Asgardian axe as his new weapon, he freed the imprisoned Asgardian warriors from Loki's forces. The Warriors Three respected him as Hulk has the gift of battle and Hulk was happy about this.

Reuniting with the Avengers, they defeated Loki with their skills and strategy. Hulk was among with the Avengers being praised by the Asgardians for saving them all and the Asgardians has their trust.

After the end of the war, Bruce was walking with the others saying good night to Steve before the latter was replaced by the Skrull. It is stated that Hulk was tired from all the fighting on Asgard.

Doomed[]

When the Fantastic Four came to Avengers Mansion, Hulk attacked the Thing and later did a card game with him, Human Torch, and the other avengers. The Thing revealed to have a full house gloating about his victory, which made the Hulk enraged and attacked him the second time. When Doombots attacked them, Hulk destroyed them and went with the Fantastic Four and the other Avengers to rescue Wasp and Invisible Woman from Doctor Doom. They freed them and left. They talked about Doom's intentions and did not notice that Invisible Woman was really a Skrull.

Acts of Vengeance[]

While the Avengers were tracking down the remaining Masters of Evil; Hulk, Hawkeye, Panther, and Cap (Skrull impostor) found Living Laser stuck between energy states. They came back to the mansion to find Baron Zemo, Abomination, and Wonder Man asking for help. But before they could get a word in, Hulk attacked Abomination out of pure instinct. They were being hunted by the Enchantress and Skurge and needed their help to stop her. After creating a device to dampen her powers, the two teams had trapped her, but the plan fell apart when Zemo ordered Wonder Man and Crimson Dynamo to destroy the Avengers. Hulk tried to attack Dynamo but was taken out by his missiles. After Wonder Man had sacrificed himself to destroy the Norn Stone, the rest of the Masters of Evil were imprisoned in Prison 42.

Welcome to the Kree Empire[]

Later when the Kree Empire returned to Earth, Hulk informed Iron Man and Cap (still being played by a Skrull) of what was happening. The three met up with Ms. Marvel who had also been confronting the Kree at this time. A battle ensued between the Avengers and Ronan the Accuser. After the battle, the Kree had surrendered when S.W.O.R.D had taken them down and Ronan was imprisoned in Prison 42.

Michael Korvac[]

When Wasp had taken in a seemingly homeless man by the name of Michael Korvac, Hulk was at the mansion eating turkey while the other Avengers investigated. When Tony wasn't sure what kind of energy signature Korvac was giving off, Hulk informed him that it was cosmic radiation, much to Tony's shock. When they found Korvac's wife, the Guardians of the Galaxy teleported into Avengers mansion and the two teams were initially confrontational. Hulk battled Rocket Raccoon and Groot and was shocked when Groot was able to regenerate himself after being destroyed by the sonic boom created by Hulk clapping his hands. He then was able to behead the tree but was interrupted when Korvac attacked the two teams but Warlock was able to save them by teleporting all of them into the Soul Gem. Once the Guardians explained how Korvac was a danger the galaxy, the two teams teamed up and surprise-attacked him in Central Park. None of them, not even Hulk, proved to be strong enough for Korvac. It was only when Korvac's wife told him that he had became a monster, that Korvac had decided to go into self-isolation in deep space.

Avengers Disassemble[]

Hulk was on monitor when the rest of Avengers where celebrating Ms. Marvel's invitation to the Avengers. He was watched by Black Panther, who was on Hulk duty. Hulk was stressed at the silent panther and stated that he talked too much, which confused the former.[10]

After the Avengers returned, they were confronted by Iron Man who had suspiciousness on Skrull who infiltrated the Avengers. After Iron Man accused Hawkeye of being one, Hulk backed him up and fought alongside him against Ms. Marvel. Captain America (Skrull) made them stop, Iron Man, Ms. Marvel and Black Panther left the team. Hulk along with Hawkeye was about to be ready to leave, but was stopped by Captain America (Skrull) who convinced them to stay and accepted it alongside Hawkeye and Wasp and became the remaining Avengers.[10]

Nightmare In Red[]

As Bruce Banner, he was outside New York, fishing. Hawkeye was watching over him and admitted he liked Hulk better. When they returned to the Mansion, Falcon attacked them. Hawkeye managed to drive him away, but then a Red-Skinned Hulk captured Banner and forced him to become Hulk. Hulk, Hawkeye, Wasp, and Captain America (Skrull) defeated Red Hulk, but Hulk was arrested by the Hulkbusters because they thought he attacked the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier when it was really Red Hulk who attacked them.

Return to the Avengers[]

S2E22-1-

Hulk fighting Red Hulk

After clearing his name for the crimes committed by Red Hulk, Hulk (who was unaware of Captain America being replaced by a Skrull due to being imprisoned during the rest of the Skrull Invasion) attacks Captain America because he believed Captain America imprisoned him and then escapes. The Avengers eventually find Hulk and Captain America attempts to reason with him but fails forcing the Avengers to attack him. However, Hulk easily defeats all the Avengers but gets taken down by the Red Hulk. When Red Hulk joins the Avengers and starts committing heroic acts, Captain America is still suspicious of Red Hulk and worries about Bruce. Captain America secretly goes to the SHIELD facility where Bruce was being held. Wasp (who tags along with Cap without him noticing) looks at the back of Bruce's head and finds a device that is being used to trigger the Hulk's anger. While attempting to destroy the device with her stingers, Wasp wakes up Bruce who immediately transforms into the Hulk. Hulk who angrily grabs the Captain but before he can harm him, Wasp destroys the device calming Hulk which makes Hulk realize that it wasn't Captain America who betrayed him (it was really a Skrull copycat who turned his back on him). Immediately, the Red Hulk arrives with the Avengers. Hulk then immediately attacks Red Hulk and the two get into an ensuing battle. Red Hulk then attempts to use the button that triggers Hulk's anger but is surprised when it doesn't work. The two then continue to fight. Iron Man reveals that he planted something secret on Red Hulk's Avengers ID card which he activates to return Red Hulk to his human form revealing him to be General Ross. With Ross exposed and put in jail for good, Hulk is given a new Avengers ID card and offered to rejoin the Avengers full-time. However, Hulk refuses and wants to be alone for a while, but says they can call if they need him, as a reserve member.

Galactus[]

During the Galactus Invasion, Hulk (along with many heroes) joins the Avengers with the Code White (team) in a battle against Galactus and his Heralds. He goes with Ant-Man, Winter Soldier, the Black Panther, and the Invisible Woman to fight Firelord and destroy his tower. Hulk delivers the final blow to the Herald. Galactus is defeated and sent to the Negative Zone. Hulk stands with the Avengers when they were hailed as Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Bruce Banner

Bruce Banner's persona has a rather weak build, while being chased by various people and little time taking care of himself. He has a scruffy beard, brown messy hair, and brown eyes. Bruce wears dark blue jeans and a hoodie for hiding his face, and a white shirt underneath.[1]

When Bruce gets excited or mad he grows into a large green man with large muscles. He also rips out of his clothes with only his ripped pants remaining. His eyes turn into dark green as well and his hair becomes black. And his scruffy beard will disappear too.[11]

Personality[]

Bruce is a genius as an expert in gamma radiation. He is overly sarcastic by guessing Hawkeye's joke. After having exposed to the gamma bomb he gained another personality that is monstrous, called the Hulk, that he can change into after his heart rate goes at a certain point by getting too excited or angry. He tries to maintain his heart rate by calming himself down, but it seems that he's able to bring out Hulk by will alone (it could be theorized that Bruce's heart rate is something he cannot always control, thus he can sometimes bring out the Hulk not by his will). Bruce cares for people especially ones that have been radiated with gamma rays, even trying to help Absorbing Man. Bruce distrusts S.H.I.E.L.D., as he thinks that they will use the gamma radiated mutants as weapons of mass destruction for themselves.

As the Hulk, he is very aggressive especially when he changed into the Hulk when he was angry, after changing into the Hulk he causes destruction to his surroundings and beats anything in his path. After some time, Hulk respected people and had the thought of helping them instead of hurting them, such as when the Hulk rescued Hawkeye's men from a helicopter crash. Hulk can talk with Bruce as his dormant persona and decided to join the Avengers to help innocent people and show them that he can be good in exchange for staying as the Hulk.

Hulk is very egotistical when it comes to his fighting prowess, regularly calling himself the strongest there is and laughing at Hawkeye when he said he could take him down. He is also very gruff, and sometimes grumpy, and very rarely shows any emotion other than anger, though he does have a soft side. He can get along with people very well, but can be easily irritated by others if they think that Hulk is only a monster. Hulk has a trait to call people by nicknames that he comes up with, like calling Thor "Goldielocks" and Hawkeye "Cupid".

Relationships[]

Thunderbolt Ross[]

"Ross! It was you. Always you!"
―After Hulk found out the Red Hulk is General Ross

General Ross is the Hulk's arch-enemy. In leading the Hulkbusters, he was so obsessed in capturing or possibly destroy the Hulk over the years whatever means necessary (instead of moving on forward or what's more important). Hulk possibly hates him more than Ross hates him.

Doc Samson[]

Wolverine[]

Wolverine is the Hulk's arch-enemy as they have fought each other for years. However, it was revealed that the Hulk was used to get Wolverine back.

Abomination[]

He is the arch enemy (next to Ross) or arch rival of Hulk, they have known each other for several years.

Leader[]

Despite being enemies, the Leader views the Hulk as a kindred Gamma spirit, and genuinely seemed to want him on his side during the events of "Gamma World".

The Wasp[]

Wasp is Hulk's second friend. She helped him in a fight against Graviton and gained Hulk's trust. He now took orders from her in every battle they fought and in free time. She can guide him to the right choice in everyway.

Hawkeye[]

Hawkeye is Hulk's best friend. When they first met, he was an enemy to Hulk, but when the Leader unleashed the Gamma Dome, he went to the Hulk for help and gained his trust in a condition if he stays in the Avengers with him. Hulk also defended Hawkeye when he was accused of being a Skrull and stood with him against both Iron Man and Ms. Marvel when they tried to take him into custody. Hulk often lets Hawkeye ride on his back for a long high jump which scares him much to the Hulk's delight.

Black Widow[]

Hulk is Black Widow's former enemy turned ally. When they first met, he had a grudge on her for beating him up. When she entered the mansion, Hulk tried to smash her on Wasp's orders but Hawkeye told him to stand down and let her go. It is unknown if he forgiven her, as Iron Man jokingly warned her that he'll have Hulk have her for lunch.

Thing[]

Thing is a frequent brawl rival of the Hulk. When Thing and Human Torch visited the mansion to play poker with the other Avengers, Hulk had immediately attacked Thing as if he knew him before. Afterwards, the Hulk attacked Thing again after losing a card game to him, used him as a living weapon to fight the Doombots, and pushed him out of the Quinjet. Their seemingly violent but friendly rivalry may simply be a result of the Thing being one of the few people who can tussle with the Hulk without being seriously hurt.

Captain America[]

The Hulk seems to be greatly inspired by the Captain especially after the Super Soldier calls him an honorable warrior and would follow his orders without protest. This is further proven by the fact that when everyone thinks he has turned into a raging monster, only Captain America had faith in him throughout (Wasp at first thought he was turning into a monster but realized Captain America was right and helped him free Hulk from the military).

Thor[]

The Hulk, at first, is mad at Thor for thinking that he is a "monster". He then states that "at least S.H.I.E.L.D. and Ross are honest about it". Later, however, he considers Thor a friend after Thor calls him a worthy warrior in Gamma World. He even punches Ultron in Ultron Imperative yelling, "This one's for Thor!" as he's avenging Thor's "supposed-to-be" death.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Transformation: Due to the gamma radiation that has mutated his body, Bruce Banner is able to transform between his normal, unpowered human form and the form of one of the most powerful superhumans on Earth.[1] Bruce can activate by force of will. In addition, this transformation has led to a dual consciousness, with one being Bruce Banner and the other the Hulk. As of now, the Hulk is in charge of their shared body.[2] He has only transformed back into Banner a handful of times.[5] In other media the transformation is often caused by anger or stress, and in this show the opposite was once shown to be the case (when Hawkeye made the Hulk laugh so hard he reverted to Dr. Banner).

As Hulk[]

  • Superhuman Strength: As the Hulk, he has essentially unlimited superhuman strength at his disposal. He is strong enough to match and surpass his teammate Thor in combat,[4] as well as break through the incredibly powerful gravitational influences of the villain Graviton.[2] He is easily able to heft objects like tanks with one hand and use them akin to a baseball bat. This strength also allows him to leap incredible distances.[11] The Hulk's strength increases when he is angry, and this is something that has led to the downfall of many villains. Like he is in the comics, The Hulk's strength fluxes depending on his emotional state. It is said when he is "calm" he can lift up to 90 tons. But when enraged or exited, the Hulk's strength grows to where he can lift easily well over 100 tons.[1]
    • Superhuman Leaping: The Hulk is able to use his highly developed leg muscles to leap great distances. As the Hulk becomes enraged, his strength increases considerably, which means he can jump farther than usual.
      4E0972CC-DC00-46B4-BA7B-5627D6267814
    • Superhuman Lung Capacity: The Hulk can inhale great quantities of air for several effects. For example, he can expel the air at enormous speeds to knock down forests and armed troops.
    • Weaponizing: As the Hulk, he had to make something useful out from any object he can find and used them as melee and ranged weapons like tanks, missile launchers, signboards, and cars on foes.
  • Accelerated Healing Factor: Hulk can heal even the most serious wounds within seconds.
    • Superhuman Longevity: Hulk can live forever due to his healing factor.
  • Superhuman Durability: As the Hulk, Banner possesses near-invulnerability toward all types of harm. He has been struck with bullets, laser cannons, powerful magical and technological energy blasts, and falls from great heights with no injury. Hulk has even shown tremendous confidence in his durability to the point that he believed he would survive a bomb capable of destroying a planet.[7] His Durability is similar to that of Thor.[4]
  • Superhuman Speed: Regardless of his size, Hulk's superhuman strength of his legs allow him to run at speeds that are far beyond the natural physical limits of a human being.

As Bruce Banner[]

  • Genius-level intellect: In his Bruce Banner persona, Bruce possesses a genius level intellect, especially when it comes to Gamma Energy and Radiation.[11] He was able to create a successful cure for the Leader's gamma energy projector in a very short period of time.[5]
  • Average stamina: Bruce also has quite a bit of stamina, having outrun a policeman who spotted him in Las Vegas.[11]

Trivia[]

  • Like in the comics, the Hulk is the first founding member of the Avengers to leave the team.
    90D33E14-8AD1-4BBD-8EEA-8FE730F1734F
  • While he retains his usual appearance & super-strength, This version of the Hulk is much more intelligent (unless he is upset beyond belief) than the other versions through the fact that he is not just the team berserker that they point at something to hit, has the ability of speaking in full sentences while occasionally referring to himself in the third person, & understands and uses sarcasm. Therefore, This portrayal adds more depth to the Hulk then he was originally depicted with in the comics by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
  • This version of Hulk's design seems to be mostly inspired by his appearance in the 2008 film The Incredible Hulk.
  • The Hulk lets his Banner persona take over one day each month.
  • According to Maria Hill, the Hulk started out gray, which is actually true to the comics.
  • [Mann] provides the voice for Bruce Banner, while [Tatasciore] provides the voice for the Hulk.
  • Quite humorously, Hulk takes his orders mostly from Wasp and Hawkeye since the two were his best friends.
