Season One[]

In the Breakout arc, shortly after a fight with Ultimo, Iron-Man discovers HYDRA has stolen his technology to use on their cavalry attacking the United Nations and departs to stop them. With assistance from SHIELD, he defeats them and Director of SHIELD Nick Fury escorts Grim Reaper and the rest of the HYDRA agents to the Vault prison. Grim Reaper breaks out the leader of HYDRA, Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, from prison and the two escape in a jet. They are eventually stopped and crashed by Fury, who re-imprisons them. Wicked former prince of Asgard Loki allies himself with the Frost Giant army, and then arrives at Earth, impersonating himself as the Leader and hiring the Wrecking Crew to carry out a crime, luring his noble half-brother Thor. He then impersonates his other step-brother Balder the Brave and tricks Thor into coming to Asgard, before leading the Frost Giant army and invading Asgard. As per Loki's plan, he is defeated by Thor and banished to the Isle of Silence by their father Odin, but when Odin argues with Thor and commands him to guard Asgard before going into the Odinsleep. The furious Thor instead returns to Earth while Loki's servants, the Enchantress and the Executioner free him from the Isle of Silence. While on the run from General Thaddeus Ross and the military, the Hulk confronts and defeats the escaped villain Absorbing Man. The military then launch the Hulkbusters after him, and he is eventually apprehended by SHIELD agents Black Widow and Hawkeye and imprisoned in the Cube. Widow secretly takes a blood sample from the Hulk and gives it to HYDRA agents, but she is followed by Hawkeye, who discovers she is a traitor and works for HYDRA. When other SHIELD agents arrive she frames him as the traitor and shoots him; he is then arrested in the Vault. Time-travelling villain Kang the Conqueror blames WWII hero Captain America for destroying his timeline and travels to 1945, where he observes his final battle with the former HYDRA leader Red Skull, resulting in Captain America being frozen in ice and his partner Bucky Barnes dying. After evading an attack from Ulysses Klaw on his lab, Ant-Man and his partner Wasp defeat Whirlwind, who was hired by Klaw, and imprison him in the Big House prison. In the Vault, the Cube, the Big House and the Raft, the power energy levels go down and the villains break out and fight the SHIELD agents. Iron-Man, Thor, Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp begin attempting to take down the villains in individual prisons. Doctor Leonard Samson is exposed gamma radiation at the Cube but is saved by the transformed Hulk. Graviton, a powerful villain put in a coma after an experiment oversaw by Fury, awakens and attacks Fury in revenge but Iron-Man, Thor, Ant-Man, Wasp and Hulk save Fury and fight Graviton. The team briefly weaken Graviton, allowing Thor to muster his full power and defeat the villain. The heroes then unite and form the Avengers team to capture the seventy-four villains that have escaped.

In the Living Legend arc, the Avengers move into the Avengers Mansion but the Enchantress and Executioner attack, and the Enchantress brainwashes the Hulk into fighting his own team. Hulks manages to fight off the Enchantress' control and helps the team drive the villains away, but he begins feeling self-doubt and abandons the team, fleeing to Antarctica, where Captain America still lays frozen. The Avengers discover Captain America while following the Hulk and thaw him out. As he awakens, he reaches New York completely confused that he has been in ice for so long. Meanwhile, Baron Zemo, former HYDRA leader, has scientist Arnim Zola create dough monsters, luring the Avengers apart from Captain America and Wasp away from the mansion. Zemo then attacks and almost kills Captain America, when the Black Panther arrives and saves Zemo, forcing him to retreat. Iron-Man modifies his repulsor rays to dissolve Zola's dough monsters, and Zemo is approached by Enchantress and Executioner, who offer him to join them.

Iron-Man buys the failing company of businessman Simon Williams, brother of the Grim Reaper, but Simon misunderstands and is taken to a HYDRA base by Grim Reaper, where M.O.D.O.C. starts an experiment on him using the Cosmic Cube. Thor and Wasp arrive and fight the HYDRA and AIM soldiers while Simon is transformed into Wonder Man, a being made of pure ionic energy. Wonder Man then attacks the Avengers while M.O.D.O.C. is defeated by Thor and Wasp. Wonder Man fades into nothing, and the heroes are unable to save him with the Arc Reactor. However, the Enchantress revives him and offers him to join her, Zemo and Executioner.

In the Gamma World arc, Black Panther arrives at the Avengers Mansion and seeks help from the Avengers in overthrowing Man-Ape as the King of Wakanda. The team arrive in Wakanda and fight the Wakandan security and HYDRA soldiers. The Grim Reapers blasts Klaw, finding him of no longer use, but escapes when the latter turns into a being made of sound. Panther defeats Man-Ape in combat and becomes the rightful ruler of Wakanda, before aiding Iron-Man and Ant-Man in blocking Klaw's sound emitter, defeating him. Panther then joins the Avengers, who are called for help when the Leader forms a gamma dome around the Cube prison, with his forces and a group of mutated SHIELD agents inside it. Hawkeye attacks a HYDRA base and captures the Black Widow, bent on vengeance. The Avengers and Doc Samson go inside it and fend off the Leader's forces until Panther destroys the generator, collapsing the dome. Revealed to just be a trial run, the Leader then activates a device that forms a dome around all of Las Vegas, turning all its inhabitants into gamma monsters, including the Avengers. Hawkeye abandons Widow and seeks the Hulk for help in stopping the Leader. Together, the two join Thor and Doc Samson in fighting the Leader and his forces; Abomination is sent to a desert during the fight. Hulk eventually defeats the Leader and destroys his gamma emitter, collapsing the dome and restoring the inhabitants back to normal. Hulk rejoins the Avengers alongside Hawkeye, who proves his innocence. The Enchantress, Zemo, Executioner and Wonder Man offer Abomination to join them.

The Enchantress' group of villains are joined by Crimson Dynamo and form the Masters of Evil. They defeat Wasp before attacking the Avengers Mansion and capturing Iron-Man, Captain America and Thor, while the Enchantress teleports Hulk to Jotunheim. Black Panther, Ant-Man and Hawkeye free the heroes, bring the Hulk back and drive off the Masters of Evil. Enchantress tells Loki via hologram that is plan is ready to begin. Ant-Man and Wasp visit the observatory of their friend Carol Danvers, but an alien robot attacks and causes an explosion. Carol is saved by a colleague who is revealed to be the Kree spy Captain Marvel. As Carol is hospitalized, Captain Marvel tells the Avengers that the Kree race are at war with the Skrulls, and the Kree want to decimate Earth's life using a bomb in the alien robot, Sentry-459, to use Earth as a strategic location. Having grown to love humanity, Marvel helps the Avengers deactivate the bomb and destroy the Sentry. Nick Fury and Iron-Man forbid Hawkeye from catching Black Widow after one of his attempts fail, but Captain America, Black Panther and SHIELD agent Mockingbird aid Hawkeye in ambushing the HYDRA base. Baron Strucker almost kills Hawkeye, but Black Widow saves Hawkeye for some reason before escaping with Strucker, lying to him that he was stopped by someone else. Meanwhile, Fury recovers the dead body of HYDRA agent Madame Viper but discovers it was a Skrull in disguise.

In the Kang Dynasty arc, Kang the Conqueror arrives in the present at the Avengers Mansion and tells the Avengers that an action commiteed by Captain America during the Kree-Skrull war will wipe out all of life on the Earth and he has travelled from his dystopian future to eliminate him, and conquer the Earth to prepare them for the war. Kang then travels to the future with the Avengers and fights them, but Iron-Man manages to hack into Kang's throne and teleport the group to the present. Kang summons his army and starts a worldwide invasion. The Avengers, SHIELD and the world's armies begin fighting back, and Ant-Man arrives at the Negative Zone prison, programming the peaceful Ultron guards to know violence so they can help with the battle against Kang. The Avengers deduce that destroying the technology of Kang's ship Damocles would send his army back to their time and fly towards it alongside a legion of Ultron robots. Iron-Man and Captain America defeat Kang and prepare to send him back, but Wasp discovers his love Ravonna is fading away from time. Kang is arrested and put in the Negative Zone while Ravonna is sent to the Baxter Building to be nursed back to health.

Malekith the Dark Elf is broken out of Niflheim by Enchantress and Executioner, and they order him to retrieve the Casket of Ancient Winters for them. Malekith betrays them and unleashes the casket, initiating an extreme cold around the world and unleashing an ice monster army. The heroes fight the army while Iron-Man, Thor and Black Panther confront Malekith in Norway. Thor enhances Iron-Man's armour with lightning, allowing him to blast Malekith away. Enchantress and Executioner arrive and take away the Casket before the heroes can retrieve it. Black Widow arrives at the Avengers Mansion and reveals she was never a traitor, she was sent as an undercover agent by Fury to gather information about the Cosmic Cube, which HYDRA and AIM have began a destructive war for the possession of. AIM, HYDRA and M.O.D.O.C. are defeated while Strucker and Captain America battle for the possession of the Cosmic Cube. Before Strucker's defeat, he touches it the same time as Captain America, unknowingly ressurrrecting Bucky Barnes from the dead.

In the Ultron Imperative/A Day Unlike Any Other arc, Ant-Man decides to quit the Avengers due to thinking that his urge for peace can never be fulfilled while he is a member of the team. Ultron, deeming that humanity must be extinguished to attain ultimate peace, sends the blueprints of the Baxter Building to Red Ghost and the Super Apes so they can infiltrate it, but they are stopped by Hulk and Black Panther. Ultron takes control of the mansion and fights the Avengers, killing Thor in the process and sending Hulk away in a Quinjet. Hulk arrives and destroys Ultron, not knowing Ultron has uploaded his consciousness into another body. In his plan to destroy all of mankind, Ultron takes control of the world's military satellite networks and nuclear weapons before attacking the Helicarrier to access SHIELD arsenal of nuclear missiles. It is revealed Thor is alive, as he was teleported to another realm by Enchantress before he could be destroyed by Ultron, but he has her send him back to Earth, though not before she warns him of a looming crisis. The Avengers, joined by Thor, confront Ultron on the Helicarrier. Ant-Man tricks Ultron into thinking that he is as dangerous as humanity to the planet, allowing the Avengers to destroy him. The Masters of Evil, joined by Arnim Zola, Doughboy, Living Laser and Chemistro lure the Avengers by sending transmissions of dimensionsal energy around the world. Each Avengers discover a villain and a Norn Stone waiting for them at their locations: Wasp fights Abomination, Iron-Man fights Living Laser, Captain America fights Crimson Dynamo, Hawkeye fights Chemistro, Black Panther fights Wonder Man, while Thor meets Enchantress and Baron Zemo. The creatures of the Nine Realms start coming to Earth, but Zemo captures Thor and betrays Enchantress to claim the Earth with the combined armies. While Black Panther convinces Wonder Man to stop being evil and Ant-Man arrives to help Wasp, each hero defeats their respective villain and destroy the Norn Stones, but this teleports the Avengers to the realms of which Norn Stone they destroyed. Thor finds himself in Asgard, where Loki has assumed control. Loki then reveals his master plan to Thor: he purposely failed his previous invasion on Asgard so he would be exiled and Odin would order Thor to guard Asgard, knowing that Thor would abandon Odin when he falls into the Odinsleep. He then took control of Asgard and sent Enchantress and Executioner to combat the Avengers with the Masters of Evil to distract Thor as he took command of the Nine Realms apart from Earth. Ant-Man and Wasp are saved from the Frost Giant in Jotunheim by Lady Sif and the Valkyries, Black Panther uses Vibranium to fend off Dark Elves before teleporting to Hawkeye's realm with a magic well and saving him, Hulk defeats the troll army before leaving with the Warriors Three, Captain America fights off the fake spirits of his fallen comrades and has Hela let him leave Niflheim and Iron-Man constructs an armor with Eitri and the Dwarves to combat the villain Ulik. Hulk, Wasp, Ant-Man, Hawkeye, Black Panther, Lady Sif, the Valkyries, the Light Elf Faradei and the Warriors Three confront Loki and his Frost Giant army. They are joined by Iron-Man and Captain America and fight Loki, all-powerful due to the Odinforce. He gains the upper hand on the heroes with ease until Ant-Man uproots the Tree of Life, the source of the Odinforce, causing it to return to Odin and awakening him from his Odinsleep. Odin then banishes Loki to Yggdrasil to be tortured by the Midgard Serpent until the end of time and holds a ceremony to celebrate the Avengers' victory. Thor decides to stay in Asgard to defend it and the Avengers return to Earth victorious. In his room at the mansion, Captain America is secretly shot unconscious by a Skrull, who takes his form and claims the Skrull invasion has begun.
